Teaching figure skating to students with special needs was one of Fay Hvizdak’s proudest accomplishments. The Fedora “Fay” Hvizdak Figure Skating Scholarship Fund will honor her legacy by awarding a full season of lessons (private or group) to a Greenwich Skating Club (“GSC”) member with special needs.

Applicants must be a Greenwich Skating Club member, adult or child, who will enroll in weekly skating lessons at GSC and has a special need. Scholarships are reviewed annually by a small selection committee and one scholarship per season is available.

This fund is supported by Fay’s family as well as by individual donations. To donate in memory of Fay, please send a check or money order to: The Fedora “Fay” Hvizdak Figure Skating Scholarship Fund, Greenwich Skating Club, P.O. Box 596, Greenwich, CT 06836.

Fedora “Fay” Hvizdak was a national figure skating champion of Czechoslovakia who went on to coach women skaters on the U.S. Olympic skating and hockey teams as well as special needs athletes for the Special Olympics. Before retiring at age 77, Fay was a beloved instructor at Greenwich Skating Club as well as other figure skating clubs in Connecticut and New York. A perpetual award at GSC is named in her honor. While she coached some female Olympic figure and hockey skaters, she said that her greatest accomplishment was coaching children with special needs. In 2016, a competition skating rink in Slovakia was named in her honor. She lived to be 97, leaving behind two sons, a stepdaughter, two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her legacy of accomplishments and mentoring in the figure skating world will continue to inspire generations of skaters to come.
